Where is Lazy Puffin Lodge located?

Lazy Puffin Lodge is in Little Eagle Harbor, Ugak Bay, on the remote coast of Kodiak Island, Alaska. The lodge sits in a protected coastal valley and is accessible by boat or air charter. 

Fly into Kodiak, Alaska. We provide van pickup in town and boat transportation to and from the lodge (weather dependent). You can book an air charter at your own expense if preferred.

Most guests spend the night in Kodiak before and after traveling to the lodge. Hotel stays in town are not included.

Some spots are 10-15 minutes from the lodge; others are 35-45 minutes depending on sea conditions.

Lodging & Atmosphere

Sleeping accommodations are bunkroom style with clean, comfortable cots and space for personal gear. The lodge is simple and comfortable, designed for rest and recovery after full days on the water or in the field.

We only host one group at a time. Your stay is exclusive to your group. We do not mix separate parties.

We love Alaska and enjoy sharing knowledge, stories, and experience so you feel at home. Expect home-cooked meals, hot showers, warm coffee, conversation when you want it, and quiet when you need it. 

Food, Comfort & Connectivity

We are happy to accommodate most dietary needs with advance notice.

There is spotty cell service when out exploring. At the lodge, there is a usable AT&T signal and we also have Starlink Wi-Fi. We use Garmin InReach when away from the lodge.

Fishing Information

Depending on the season: Halibut, Pacific Cod, Rock Sole, Lingcod, many rockfish species, all five Pacific salmon species, Dolly Varden, Rainbow Trout (catch-and-release), and seasonal Steelhead (catch-and-release).

Yes. All fishing is guided weather you’re out on the ocean or on the river one of our guides will be with you and your group.

Our Coast Guard license allows a maximum of 6 guests on the boat at a time. Depending on the techniques we may rotate through anglers so that everyone gets equal shots at catching fish. 

Yes. Vacuum sealing and freezing your fish is included. Shipping is not included.

Hunting Information

No. Hunts are self-guided. We provide boat transport, lodging, meals, and space to hang meat. You are responsible for field decisions and game care.

Yes. The State of Alaska requires a Hunt Transport Contract for self-guided big game hunts.

Yes. You may process your own meat using your own knives and tools. We cannot assist. Commercial processors are available in town. 

Wildlife & Environment

Bald eagles, sea otters, harbor seals, sea lions, whales (seasonal), foxes, Sitka black-tailed deer, and Kodiak brown bears. We view wildlife respectfully and at safe distances.

Weather & Safety

We highly recommend trip insurance do to weather, sea conditions, wind , volcanic ash or fog can delay flights.

Gear & Packing

Fishing rods, reels, tackle, bait, life jackets, and safety gear are provided. We also vacuum seal and freeze fish.

Rain gear, chest waders, rubber boots, warm layered clothing, toiletries, and personal items. A packing checklist is provided.
